Q. Am I eligible for the Books Plus Scheme?
To be eligible for Books Plus you must be:

  • A home or EU student studying on the first year of an undergraduate course funded by the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) paying the higher rate of fees - £7500 for HNC/HND, Foundation degrees, £9250 for degree courses.
  • A post graduate student starting their PGT in academic year 17/18.
  • Pro rata for part time students studying with Anglia Ruskin University on campus at Chelmsford, Cambridge or Peterborough Guild House.

Q. What is it worth?
The Books Plus award is worth up to £400 per year.

Q. How do I register for it?
As soon as you have got your Anglia Ruskin student ID card, visit us at registration on the Cambridge or Chelmsford campuses or visit us at one of the John Smith's student stores on the Cambridge or Chelmsford campuses to pick up your Books Plus card. If you are based at Peterborough Guild House, you can also register online here.

Q. When can I access Books Plus?
As soon as you register with us your funds will be available.

Q. What can I spend Books Plus on?
You can spend your funds on books, stationery, art supplies, digital products and other learning materials. In any year, you can also choose to spend up to £100 on Sport and Active Anglia memberships and up to £100 at your Students' Union to join clubs and societies, buy an NUS Extra card or on a limited selection of branded goods.

Q. Where can I spend Books Plus?
You can spend your scholarship online at this website or in the John Smith's student stores on the Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses.

Q. Is this a loan? Do I have to pay it back?
Your Books Plus funding is not a loan and you do not have to pay it back. The funds are provided for you by your university to help with the extra costs associated with studying. It does not add to your student debt.

Q. What happens if I don't spend the money by the end of the academic year?
Your Books Plus funding will be available to you throughout your studies but you must spend all of your funds by the end of October in your final year as they will not be available to you after graduation.

We take most major credit and debit cards and have a vast range of products to help you with your studies - including the latest editions of all your recommended textbooks.





Books Plus is for students studying on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course or part-time course. You must also: * Be on a course which is not being sponsored by an employer. * Be a HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council) countable student paying the full tuition fee for your course, pro-rata for part-time students. * Be studying at our core campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough (Guild House)

Your Books Plus funds can be used to purchase books, stationery, laptops, computer consumables and other learning materials from John Smith's bookshops at either the Cambridge or Chelmsford campus, or online on this website. (Terms and conditions apply)

Any unspent funds on your Books Plus account will roll over to the following year and still be available to spend.

N.B: If you leave the university before the end of your course, any money unspent will not be refundable as cash.

NEW: You'll also receive Books Plus if you're starting a nursing, midwifery or an allied health professions course in the 2017/18 academic year. These courses were previously eligible for NHS bursaries, but are now eligible for maintenance loans and bursaries.
